Optimize your Electronic Catalog Experience

If you have a DVD version of the catalog, there are some steps you can take to make the electronic catalog run at its best. The biggest improvement will be seen if you actually install the catalog onto your local computer. This keeps the process of the optical drive reading from the disk from slowing down performance of the catalog viewing experience. Here's how (Windows):

  1. Insert the catalog DVD into your computer's disk drive.
  2. The catalog will then autoplay the disk contents, go ahead and close the catalog.
  3. Go to "My Computer."
  4. Right click on the icon for the drive that the disk is currently in, the disk should be showing up as "publication."
  5. When you right click on the icon a new menu will appear, click on the "copy" link.
  6. Now go to your computer desktop and right click anywhere on the desktop, when you right click on the desktop a new menu will appear, click on the "paste" link.
  7. The transfer will take a couple of minutes.
  8. Once the transfer is complete, the catalog is on your hard drive. You can double-click on the folder "publication" and a new window will open.
  9. To open the catalog, use the flash file (the file with the .flv suffix and the red "F" icon) entitled "Offline" to open the catalog.
  10. That's it! Now you can browse the catalog at its optimum speed. The more you use the catalog, the faster it will perform as your computer caches pages in memory.
